What Makes a Shoe Orthopaedic?
Orthopaedic footwear is built differently to standard shoes, layer by layer — tap each feature to see why it matters.
Holds the rearfoot stable and limits excess movement with every step, reducing strain through the ankle and arch. That's the external heel counter and padded lining you can see wrapping the back of the shoe.
A steel or composite shank built into the midsole limits excess bending, protecting the arch through hours of standing or walking.
The heel cup, orthotic shell and removable footbed together create extra internal room for a prescribed orthotic without crowding the toes.
A toe box designed with extra room, plus multiple widths for feet that don't suit a standard last — checked against your actual foot at an in-clinic fitting.
